The focus of occupational therapy is to improve and restore function to enable the patient to participate in daily and work activities. The licensed and certified occupational therapy team at Shenandoah Medical Center provides treatment for a variety of conditions, including:
Orthopedic conditions: pre or post-surgical conditions/injuries related to the shoulder, elbow, wrist and/or hand. An occupational therapist will work with you to rehabilitate your upper extremity in order to regain strength, coordination, range of motion, and functionality.
Work-related injuries: an occupational therapist will provide you with the treatment and care you need to resume work and daily activities. If prescribed by your doctor, a custom brace or splint may be fabricated by your occupational therapist to accommodate your working conditions.
Adaptations: whether it be adjusting to a new lifestyle after a medical exacerbation or changing environmental needs, an occupational therapist specializes in adapting routines and making home modification recommendations. The goal is always to improve your participation in activities you find meaningful.
Pediatrics: an occupational therapist can work with your little one to increase or decrease muscle tone, improve postural and positional abnormalities, and encourage appropriate developmental milestones.
