Shenandoah Medical Center’s Sports Medicine staff is dedicated to providing exceptional care with the highest quality of services to area school districts and their student athletes. Our team of physicians, physical therapists, and athletic trainers collaborate to provide injury prevention, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, emergency care, and rehabilitation servies to patients across Southwest Iowa.

Our certified trainer, Jake Johnson, works in conjunction with Shenandoah Community School District and Sidney Community School District to provide athletic event coverage, weekly on-site clinic evaluations, and wide-ranging treatment and rehabilitation options to students of all ages.

Jake Johnson, LAT, ATC

Jake, a Shenandoah native, joined SMC in 2020. He received his Bachelors in Athletic Training from Central College in Pella, IA. Prior to SMC Jake was an assistant athletic trainer for Peru, Nebraska where he primarily served the Bobcat football team. Jake currently works closely with the Shenandoah and Sidney community school districts to provide athletic training services. He enjoys treating athletes with orthopedic and sport related injuries including sprains, strains, concussions, chronic pain from activity, and sports related trauma. In his free time, Jake enjoys spending time with his family and friends, his dog Knute, and rooting for the Chicago Bears and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Physical Therapist

Jake Stryker, PT, DPT, ATC

Jake Stryker joined Shenandoah Medical Center in September of 2021 after receiving his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from South College in Knoxville, TN. He has a background in sports medicine, receiving a master's degree in athletic training from the University of Nebraska Omaha and practicing as an athletic trainer in the Omaha area. He enjoys treating a variety of conditions, with a particular interest in orthopedic and vestibular conditions including sports injuries, concussion, dizziness, headaches, and neck pain. Jake has specialized training in dry needling and blood flow restriction training and enjoys incorporating these techniques into patient care as appropriate. In his free time, Jake enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers.
