Shenandoah Medical Center is committed to excellence in both employee and public education. We offer a variety of classes for the current or aspiring healthcare provider as well as the general public.
Educational Courses
SMC offers a wide range of courses to meet certification requirements for healthcare providers at affordable rates. All of our resuscitation courses follow the American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines and our instructor are AHA certified. With the exception of Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), our courses are instructor-led in the classroom setting with hands-on practice incorporated into each course.
BLS is a nationally recognized program designed by the American Heart Association (AHA) to build the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. The skills you learn in this course will enable you to recognize cardiac arrest, provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relieve choking in a quick and confident manner.
Intended audience: certified or non-certified, licensed or non-licensed healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, respiratory therapists, physical or occupational therapists, nursing students, fire fighters, police officers, or other allied health professionals.
ACLS is a nationally recognized program designed by the AHA for healthcare providers who participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. Through didactic instruction and active participation in simulated cases, students will enhance their skills in the recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute arrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes.
PALS is a nationally recognized program designed by the AHA for healthcare providers who participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in the pediatric patient. Pre-course preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in skill stations and simulated cases will be used to enhance the recognition of and intervention for respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest.
NRP course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilities effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communications, and team-work skills.
TNCC is widely recognized as the premier course for hospitals and trauma centers worldwide, empowering nurses with the knowledge, critical thinking skills, and hands-on training to provide expert care for trauma patients. Learn rapid identification of life-threatening injuries, comprehensive patient assessments, and enhanced interventions for better patient outcomes. A variety of learning methodologies are
incorporated into TNCC, including online, a textbook, interactive lecture, hands-on practice and case-based learning.
Do you need individualized or customized group training?
We accept requests for classes in BLS, ACLS, PALS, Heartsaver® CPR and AED, and Heartsaver® First Aid.
