SMC receives Governor’s Volunteer Award
Shenandoah Medical Center is among the recent KMAland recipients of the Governor’s Volunteer Awards.
Coordinated by Volunteer Iowa, a bureau within the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, the program honors Iowa nonprofits, charitable organizations and government entities and their volunteers. SMC provided 175 volunteers for events in 2023, with approximately 750 hours of community service. Ryan Spiegel is the hospital’s marketing director. Speaking on KMA’s “Morning Show” Thursday morning, Spiegel says SMC provides volunteers for a long list of community activities–most recently the 2024 ShenDig Barbecue Competition last month.
“Just this summer, the PTO track meet here in town,” said Spiegel. “We try to work the track meet with some of the members of the PTO here in Shenandoah. We work out at the Friday After 5 event–we do that for our foundation. We just had the Sidney Rodeo where we are a sponsor for that event, and volunteer out there for three nights during the rodeo. We had the Farmer’s Merchant Parade in Tabor. We have a clinic over in Tabor, so we participate in some of the Farmer’s Merchant activities out there.”
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds and Lieutenant Governor Adam Gregg announced the volunteers award recipients in late June. A complete list of award recipients is available at volunteer.iowa.org.
