Renee Johnson, ARNP, is a graduate of Clarkson College receiving her Bachelors of Science in Nursing in 2007 and her Master's of Science as Family Nurse Practitioner in 2013. She is board certified by the American Nurse Credentialing Center. She has worked for on OB/GYN group in the Denver Metro area prior to relocating back to Southwest Iowa in 2015, when she joined Shenandoah Medical Center. She works alongside SMC's Women's Health Providers and has a special interest in treating patients with incontinence and other forms of pelvic muscle dysfunction.
Jona Hutson DNP is a graduate of Frontier Nursing University, the oldest and top ranked midwifery school in the United States. After graduation, she worked in a large teaching institute at University of Nebraska as a Certified Nurse Midwife where she gathered further experience delivering women’s care.
Jona relocated to Southwest Iowa in late 2017, making her the first Certified Nurse Midwife in the Shenandoah area. She offers a holistic evidence-based approach to OB-GYN care and can answer questions related to nutrition, exercise, relationships, emotions, breastfeeding and parenting in order to help individualize patient care.
Jona serves women, across the lifespan, in need of gynecologic care, preconception care, obstetrical care, delivery, postpartum care, well-women exams, contraception management, and more.
Dr. Woods attended undergraduate at Knox College in Galesburg, IL. He continued his education at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine where he obtained his Medical Doctorate. He completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Dr. Woods is a board certified OB/GYN as well as a Fellow in the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG). In 2013, Dr. Woods became board certified in the a new subspecialty, Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. In addition to obstetrics, gynecology and urogynecology, Dr. Woods became Board Certified in Obesity Medicine in 2018.
One of his passions includes lobbying for women's health care policy in Washington D.C. He has won numerous honors for his work in medicine and in Washington including the John McCain Fellowship from the American College of OB/GYN, the ACOG Leadership Program in Women's Health Policy, as well as being picked to serve as a Fellow for the Department of Health and Human Services Primary Health Care Policy in Washington, D.C. He has served on many boards and committees since starting his medical career including Chairperson of ACOG District VI Legislative Committee. Presently he serves as Co-Medical Director to Shenandoah Medical Center Clinical Division, Chair of Shenandoah’s Medical Center Peer Review Committee, Director of Urogynecology, serves on the Board of Directors for the Heartland Health Accountable Care Organization and Chair of Maternal Child Health at Shenandoah Medical Center.
Over the course of his 30-year career, he has earned a well-deserved reputation for providing personal, compassionate and comprehensive patient care using the best technologies and most trusted practices.
Dr. Woods grew up in a military family and moved extensively during his childhood. He’s a dedicated husband and a proud father of 8 daughters.
Dr. Woods see’s patients at Shenandoah Medical Center, Audubon County Memorial Hospital and Manning Regional Health Care.
Dr. MacLeod-Kozal is a Nebraska native, born in Valentine and raised on a cattle ranch nearby. She attended Doane College in Crete, Nebraska where she graduated summa cum laude in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Honors Biology and minor in Spanish. She went on to attend medical school at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. Dr. MacLeod-Kozal then moved to Kansas City where she did her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Missouri Kansas City. She completed her residency training in June of 2012 and was honored to receive the Eugene W. J. Pearce Award for an outstanding resident with characteristics similar to Dr. Pearce including honesty, humility, and competence. Dr. MacLeod-Kozal also received the James P. Youngblood Award for best resident teacher, the Saint Luke's Hospital Outstanding Resident Award, and the Award for Best Clinical Research Project for a study looking at IUD removal rates.
Dr. MacLeod-Kozal was in private practice in Lincoln, NE from 2012 to 2018. She and her husband, Greg Kozal, relocated to Shenandoah in September of 2018. They have two children, Genevieve and Griffin, and a shih-tzu, Ozzie. They are happy to be back in a smaller community and are looking forward to raising their children here. Dr. MacLeod-Kozal is excited to serve the women of Shenandoah and surrounding communities, while being supported by other caring providers and staff. “I love providing care for women and walking through some of the most exciting and trying times of life with them.”
Krista joined the Shenandoah Medical Center in 2019, working at the Sidney Clinic. She see patients of all ages, offering annual exams, well child exams, sports physicals, DOT exams and acute care visits.
Krista is Board Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Why did you choose to become a nurse/nurse practitioner?
I truly enjoy working as a primary care provider. My mother is a nurse and I remember her working hard to further her career in nursing by going back to school when I was young. She has always loved being a nurse. So when it was time for me to decide what I wanted to do for a career, I decided to become a nurse in the hope that I would enjoy the profession as much as my mother. It was a good decision.
When I graduated from my Masters in Nursing Science / Family Nurse Practitioner program, my search for a position brought me back to the area to become a member of the SMC family.

Stephanie is a graduate of Creighton University Doctor of Nursing Practice. She worked in dialysis, ICU and as an administrator prior to completing Nurse Practitioner School. She joined Shenandoah Medical Center in 2018 and practices in Internal Medicine. Stephanie is interested in Chronic Diseases such as Heart, Lung, Diabetes, etc.
