Tara Goodman, ARNP is a graduate of Creighton University. Tara started her career in pediatrics while attending nursing school. She worked in the pediatric ICU at Nebraska Medicine for 8 years, and then switched to the pediatric clinic at Nebraska Medicine while obtaining her Master's as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. Tara has been practicing in Southwest Iowa as a primary care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner for the past 10 years.
Tara joined Shenandoah Medical Center in 2022 serving pediatric patients at the Tabor & Sidney Clinics. Tara sees patients from birth to 21 years. She loves all aspects of pediatrics, and has a special interest in pediatric/adolescent mental health.
Tara is a native to Southwest Iowa. She was born in Hamburg, IA and raised in Thurman, IA. She lives on a farm in Mills County with her husband, Dusty and four daughters along with four dogs, a cat, rabbit, three chickens, and two miniature cows. Tara's daughters keep her busy with all of their sporting events, dance, 4H and other activities. When time allows, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading and going for walks.
Dr. Breier obtained his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1994 and completed his internal medicine training at New York Medical College. He completed pain and palliative medicine training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and his hematology and medical oncology fellowship at the University of Missouri - Columbia in 2011.
Dr. Breier is board certified by the ABIM in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Medical OncologyDr. Breier's philosophy is that quality oncologic care should be available locally to minimize travel while receiving treatment and to maximize quality time spent with family and loved ones.
Carmen Shore-Anderson is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. She began her career as an RN Staff Nurse from 1983-2010 with an MSN. Carmen is currently Board Certified in Acute Care as a Nurse Practitioner. Carmen has worked at Beatrice Community Hospital, Bryan Health as a Hospitalist and most recently came from Prescott, Arizona as a Hospitalist. She decided to make Shenandoah Medical Center her home, and works with patients who have been hospitalized in our Medical Surgical Unit. She is excited to join the SMC family and to make Southwest Iowa her home. She loves being part of a small community, having grown up in a small town in Nebraska, she feels right at home.
I am a board certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in family practice with a post masters certificate in Dermatology. I have been a nurse since 2006, working my way up through my degrees from LPN, RN, BSN, and MSN in that time. As well as, a post masters certificate in dermatology through FAU. I have worked with all ages of patients in a wide range of settings in my nursing career including, acute care, surgical care, long term care and occupational health care. I am also a Certified Health Coach and have done individual and community wellness coaching.
I have worked at the Shenandoah Medical Center since 2011 as a nurse in women's health, as a surgical nurse, as the Occupational Health nurse/wellness coach and now as a family practice provider specializing in Dermatology as well as working in the Walk-in Clinic. I am so happy to continue my career here at SMC, and can't imagine a better facility, community or patients!
My hobbies include traveling and spending time with my husband (Kasey) and our children (Ethan, Aubrey, Ava, and Charly). I also enjoy fitness and exercise regularly and make it a huge part of my life.
Dr. Brown earned his medical degree from Des Moines University, and completed his residency at Utah Valley Family Medicine. After graduation, he joined the SMC family and practices Family Medicine. His interests include rural medicine, sports medicine, obstetrics, minor procedures, and preventative medicine.
Dr. Brown is happily married to his wife, Jennifer. They have four children; Valerie, Gavin, Devrie, and Harvey. His personal interests include basketball, woodworking, fishing, hiking, and all things outdoors.

Mary Nissen, DNP has been an Advanced Practice Provider in Family Health Care since 2009. Her expertise is in Rural Health Care, Occupational Health and Urgent Care. Ms. Nissen has had considerable experience as an educator, most recently as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Graduate Program at South Dakota State University. Prior to that she taught in the graduate Nursing program at Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. She has many years of experience in both undergraduate and graduate nursing education. As well as teaching, she maintains a practice in urgent/acute care in Shenandoah Iowa. Ms. Nissen is the author of several journal articles. She is a contributing editor to the text Rural Nursing: Concepts, Theory and Practice. She has been invited to speak at several regional and national nursing conferences. Ms. Nissen received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa, a post master’s degree from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa and her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Creighton University in Omaha, NE.
I am a nurse practitioner that specializes in family practice. I worked as a CNA, LPN, and RN prior to obtaining my master’s degree. I have a back ground as a nurse working in the long term and skilled care as well as working at Creighton University Medical Center as a resource nurse. As a resource nurse I was assigned to many different units including: Intensive Care, Cardiac Critical Care, Post Intensive Care, Medical /Surgical floor, Orthopedics, Neurology and Trauma patients. I ended my nursing career working in the post anesthesia care unit at Creighton University Medical Center. I graduated in 2017 from Clarkson College with my Master’s in Nursing specializing in the Family Practice Nurse Practitioner role. I have always lived in the rural setting in Iowa and knew I wanted to serve the rural Iowa community as a Nurse Practitioner. I joined the Shenandoah Medical Center family in 2018 as the Walk-In Clinic provider, and am now providing primary care at the Tabor Clinic. I have really enjoyed my time in Shenandoah and enjoy taking care of acutely ill patients and assisting them on their road to recovery the best way I can by providing evidenced based care.
